The axle counting system is an important signal equipment used to detect the occupancy or vacancy of tracks, switch sections, crossings, and section lines, ensuring train safety. It consists of two main parts: software and hardware, forming a complete system.

Core technologies of axle counting system: train wheel flange detection technology, axle counting monitoring technology, axle counting simulation testing technology, direction information output system technology, safety information transmission technology, train movement direction detection technology, conditional access axle counting application technology, axle counting system and host design.

Mainline

The pulse signal of each wheel sensor (DSS) can be used by adjacent axle counting sections to enable detection of the state of the two adjacent track sections (clear/occupied) in sections without switch. DSS2 in the upper right figure is reused and connected to the axle counting unit of the adjacent section.

Depot/Station Yard

The pulse signals of each DSS of single open switch and slip switch can be used by the adjacent axle counter circuits to achieve detection of the state of track (clear/occupied) in sections with switch.


Axle Counting in Railway Sections

Axle counting in railway sections is for automatic block of single line and special line. By comparing the axle counted out at the starting station and the axle counted in at the receiving station, the state of occupied/clear between the stations can be detected, and the direction of train operation can be identified.


Conditional Axle Counting in the Case of Poor Shunting of Track Circuit

The solution with conditional access to the axle counting is mainly applied to the poor shunting of the track circuit which often occurs in the crossover line. It can reduce the conventional 5 axle counter points to 3 axle counter points, which can save the equipment investment.

Axle Counting for Auxiliary Detection of Train Passing the Track

The alarm system for detection of train passing the track can effectively confirm whether the train fully enters into the station track. This can solve the problem of not being able to detect the condition when the tail of the train does not sufficiently pass through the fouling post and the problem of no alarm when the train slips out of the station track.

The axle counting system consists of two parts: outdoor equipment and indoor equipment. The outdoor equipment mainly includes wheel sensors, while the indoor equipment includes modules such as amplification board, axle counting board, output board, reset board, and power supply.

When the wheel passes through the sensor's operating area, the wheel sensor generates an axle signal and outputs it to the amplification board.

The amplification board receives the axle signal from the axle sensor, amplifies and shapes it to form axle pulses, providing working conditions for the axle counter board and output board.

The axle counting board has two independent axle counting calculation units, which respectively determine the direction of train travel based on the information transmitted by the enlarged board's wheel sensors, and complete the calculation and statistics of the number of train axles passing through. When the calculation results of the two sets of axle counting calculation units are exactly the same, the idle information is output to the output board. Adopting a "two out of two" safety circuit.

The output board completes the status output of the wheel sensor and the condition output of the interval being idle or occupied.
